Information was obtained from Mothering the Mother: How a Doula can Help you have a Shorter Easier and Healthier Birth by Klaus, Kennell, and Klaus (1993).
Doula: (Doo-Luh)
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother, father, baby and family before, during and just after birth.
My services include the following:
- A no-obligation introductory interview to discuss your needs and birth wishes.
- Prenatal visits with you and your midwife or doctor upon request.
- 24 hour phone and email support throughout our contract.
- Full HypnoBirthing Class Series, see HypnoBirthing page
- Help with creating your Birth Wishes.
- Three visits to prepare for your birth:
- Mom’s wishes: releasing fears, room attendance, requests/wants…
- Dad’s plan: concerns, prompts, positions, itinerary, route, packing provisions…
- Hands on! Massage & relaxation scripts.
- On call two weeks prior to Estimated Due Date until baby arrives.
- Unconditional support during your labor, birthing and recovery.
- Labor tools, such as a birth ball, relaxing music, positive affirmations, tools for your comfort, light touch massage, positioning and movement…
- Initial breastfeeding support.
- Assistance and guidance in the post-birth mother's personal care.
- One Postpartum visit.
- Pictures and videos of your labor and delivery on a memory stick.
I charge $2400 for Birth Doula care. I request a non-refundable retainer fee of $1200 (this secures your date so not to overlap deliveries), the balance due at 38 weeks.
Please let me know if you are in need of a payment plan or hardship discount. No woman should be without birth support.
